Syringe Services Program

The Syringe Services Program is a harm reduction service that encourages injection drug users to dispose of used hypodermic needles in a safe manner. This reduces the transmission of blood borne pathogens and the number of needles discarded in the community.

We now offer Naloxone and overdose response education. Please call or visit our mobile van (phone number and schedule below) to learn more about this program.

SSP services are provided from a mobile van that operates in Hartford's South end. In addition to syringe exchange, the SSP provides HIV testing, risk reduction counseling, harm reduction education, drug treatment advocacy and safer sex kits. SSP staff also refer clients to drug treatment programs, medical providers and social service agencies. Contact us for drug treatment referrals and more at 860-922-3173.

Schedule: Monday, Thursday, Friday, 8:00-10:00am and 1:15-2:45pm at the corner of Park Street & Hungerford Street. If Monday is a holiday (see closures below) the van will operate on Tuesday.

Inclement Weather: If the State of Connecticut is delayed or closed, the SSP will not be open that day.
